Let's Make Beautiful I-Cord Edges (Two Video Tutorials)

This month, it’s all about i-cord in our final Confident Knitting knitalong. I-cord is one of those techniques we return to again and again … it creates beautiful detail that can really elevate a project!

Carol Feller has used an i-cord cast off to grace the edges and pocket of an heirloom-quality blanket for this month’s Confident Knitting project, the Prime Blanket. But an i-cord cast off can be used in so many situations … to finish a shawl, add polish to a sweater hem, adorn a sleeve cuff, the list goes on! We have a feeling that, once you’ve given it a try, you’re going to want to put i-cord on everything.

This month, we’ve got two video tutorials to help you on the path to i-cord success. In the first, Jen takes you through the process of picking up stitches along the sides and cast on edge of the Prime Blanket. [If you’re reading this on our email service, you can view the Picking Up Stitches Tutorial over on our YouTube channel.]

With all those stitches picked up, you’re now ready for your i-cord pìece de résistance! Jen shows you how to work this simple and amazingly effective cast off, including how to negotiate the corners. As ever, our videos have chapter breaks, so you can hover over the time bar to navigate to the bit you need. (And again, if you’re reading via the email service, you can see the video tutorial here.)

We hope that double header will give you the confidence you need to try out this fun cast off. If you’re planning a project with an i-cord cast off this month, do come join us over in The Knitalong Hub, where we’ll be chatting all things i-cord throughout February. And of course, if you’d like to cast on an Prime Blanket of your own, you can get your copy of Confident Knitting in the online shop.
