Announcing Something New To Learn About Cables

With A Year of Techniques in its last month, many of you will have been wondering what is next for us... and I think it's fair to say we haven't been idle!

This year, we thought we'd go into fewer areas of knitting technique in more detail. To this end, we are publishing a series of books under the Something New to Learn About title. We're keeping with the model of teaching new techniques through photo tutorials (and videos on this website), followed by patterns to practise what you learn, with a staged approach. Successive chapters have an increasing skill level, so that each book should have something for everyone, whether you've been knitting for 5 days, 5 years or even 5 decades.

Our aim with these books is to produce something big enough to cover the subject in some detail, but also to be an easily digestible read and, most importantly, small enough to slip into a project bag and take everywhere with you.

Something New To Learn About Cables is the first title in the series, and it covers basic cable techniques, fixing mistakes in cables and advanced cable techniques. It is available now to pre-order as a print book (with free ebook download), or as an ebook only option. As before, we will be offering kits to go alongside the book and these are also available.

We're going to reveal the photos of the designs to be found in the book later this week, but in the meantime, my co-designers are Rachel Coopey and Lucy Hague, so you can be sure that they have created some cabled wonders for your enjoyment! For a little taster of the sorts of projects included, you can peek at the kits in our shop, or the pattern pages on Ravelry, but the photos and full details won't be revealed until later in the week.

We will also be talking more in the coming days about the luscious yarn we've used for all of the designs in Something New to Learn About Cables. They all use Coop Knits Socks Yeah! DK, and with the recent release of new shades, there are now 16 stunning colourways to choose from.

I absolutely love knitting cables. The way you can manipulate stitches to travel in all directions across your fabric is mesmerising! I hope that this volume will teach you a few new tricks as well as providing some beautiful cabled projects to work on.

The first opportunity to get your hands on a copy of Something New to Learn About Cables will be at Edinburgh Yarn Festival from Thursday 15th March 2018, and we will be shipping all pre-orders containing a print book from Monday 19th March 2018, on our return from EYF. If you purchase an ebook, it will initially contain just a welcome PDF, and the complete ebook will be uploaded by Monday 19th March to coincide with shipping of the print copies.

The print + ebook costs £14.00 plus shipping, kits start from £12.00 and include yarn and a project bag, and the ebook only option is £13.99.

We will be publishing 2 further Something New To Learn About books this year, one in the summer and one in the autumn, so there's plenty to be excited about over the coming months.

Oh, and in case you're worried, A Year of Techniques will return. See, I said we haven't been idle.

March 2022 Update: We are now managing our whoelsale distribution in house. Our books are currently available from Purlescence (UK), Modern Daily Knitting (USA) and Strickmich (EU).
