Boost Your Knitting Video Tutorials

We have twelve new techniques, twelve patterns from twelve fabulous designers, twelve sets of photo and video tutorials, and most importantly, twelve opportunities for you to experience the joy of learning something new!

Boost Your Knitting is a completely self-contained programme that will grow your skills and build your confidence in your knitting.

Our online shop may be closed, but our books continue to be available from Purlescence (UK), Modern Daily Knitting (USA) and Strickmich (EU). Digital patterns and ebooks are available from Ravelry: A-C Techniques on Ravelry

march - tuck stitches

Nancy Marchant’s beautiful Bramen Cowl allows us to tuck stitch with confidence. The video tutorials will walk you through the two-colour long-tail cast-on method, tuck stitches and the sewn cast-off method. Lots to learn this month!

APRIL - Fixing mistakes in lace

April’s technique is fixing mistakes in your lace knitting, and Joji Locatelli’s stunning Sterlyn Shawl design gives us the perfect canvas on which to build our skills.

may – 1x1 Tubular cast on in the round

Knitting mittens in May is perfection. They are small and portable, and come the cooler months you will be delighted with your foresight! Sarah Hatton’s Totally Tubular Mittens will have you casting on like a pro.

June – dip stitches

Thea Colman’s Apple Swizzle Hat is going to fly off your needles, introducing you to dip stitches, and making a fun, portable project to work on at summer barbecues.

JuLY – intarsia in the round

Socks are the perfect project when the weather warms up. Julia Farwell-Clay’s lovely Heartgyle Socks will have you intarsia-ing in the round in no time.

AUGUST - Choosing colours for stranded colourwork

Whatever the weather, it’s fun to play with colours! Felicity (Felix) Ford’s Knitsonik Stranded Colourwork System has changed the way I work with colour, and I hope our video and pattern this month will help you to grow in confidence with choosing colours too. Her Skystone Armwarmers are the sixth design in Boost Your Knitting.

SEPTEMBER – brioche knitting

Carol Feller’s Flying Leaves Scarf is a great project for getting to grips with brioche knitting. The rows are long enough to get you into the rhythm of the stitch pattern, but there aren’t too many of them! We have also created video tutorials for the Two-colour Italian cast-on method and the tubular cast-off method, to give your project the most professional finish.

October - joining in yarns

Tori Seierstad’s Marangoni Hat is inspired by bubbles! It’s the perfect project to practise joining in yarns – whether you splice them, or knit in your ends, the aim is not to have lots of ends to sew in at the end of the project!

November – Marlisle

Anna Maltz’s fabulous Sooper Sweater uses the incredibly nifty marlisle technique to create a luscious combination of colour and texture. You are very likely to already have all of the skills you need for this month’s project. It’s just a case of combining them in new ways, so what are you waiting for? Dive in and join us for a month of marlisle magic!

December – Double-Knitting

Learn to create a double-sided fabric with my Peaks and Troughs Hat. This month there is a special cast-on method that sets you up with alternating knits and purls in alternating colours, as well as the basic double-knitting method, and a special decrease for double-knitting. Enjoy!

January – Toe-up gusset heel turn

This is a great toe-up heel construction: it’s simple to do, and requires no picking up of stitches. Learn how to make a toe-up gusset heel by making Wendy D. Johnson’s Alcedo Socks. Happy knitting!

February – Finishing techniques for toy knitting

In our final Boost Your Knitting project you will learn to stuff, sew together and add a face to a knitted toy. Ella Austin’s Brunny the Bunny is the perfect project to master these skills.
