We had such a lot of fun with our Spring Into Colour KAL that we’ve decided to keep the momentum going with a brand new knitalong: the Stepping Out KAL (#SteppingOutKAL), a celebration of sock knitting!

Socks really are a project for all seasons. Want some fuss-free comfort knitting? A vanilla sock is your best friend! Fancy flexing your knitting muscles and trying something new? A sock is the perfect manageable canvas for learning a new technique. So for the next two months, we’ll be cheering each other on over in the Ravelry group as we embark on a choose-your-own sock knitting adventure. Whether you’re thinking of casting on your very first pair or your fiftieth, you’ll find lots of inspiration and support over in the knitalong thread.
The details
When does it start: Right now! What are you waiting for, get planning (and we’ve got some suggestions and specials to help you out — read on!)
How long will it last? The official KAL will run from now through the end of June — but as with all our KALs, the Ravelry chat thread will stay open indefinitely.
What kind of socks do I need to knit? Literally whatever socks you want! Plain or patterned, light and lacy, slipper socks, ankle socks, knee high socks, socks from the cuff down, socks from the toe, 4ply socks, Aran socks … the sock world is your oyster! If you can wear them on your feet, they are eligible for this KAL!
Are WIPs eligible? Do I have to finish by the KAL end? As with all of our knitalongs, we firmly believe it’s the taking part that counts. So yes, WIPs are fine, as long as there is some substantial knitting — whatever that means for you — left to do! And no pressure to finish, this is all about fun (though if you do finish, imagine the joy of wearing your new socks out for your daily exercise!)

How do I join in? Make a project page for your socks on Ravelry and make sure to tag it “SteppingOutKAL” and share an in-progress photo in our knitalong thread. We’d also love to follow your progress on Instagram, if you’re over there, using the hashtag #SteppingOutKAL.
