Video: Fixing Mistakes by Tinking

Learning to fix a mistake in your knitting is really empowering. I remember in my early knitting days I would traipse down the hill to the local yarn shop whenever something went amiss in my knitting. The owner, Tina, was really patient with me, and picked up dropped stitches, helped me to rip back, and eventually, once my confidence had grown, she showed me how to fix my own mistakes. It really marks a change in your relationship with your knitting when you are able to get a project back on track on your own.

I hope that this video will do just that for some of you – that it will empower you to see quickly where you've made an error, and then give you the skills required to fix it with no difficulty.

In the video above I'm using both the opening and small ring stitch markers made by Cocoknits, which are available from our online shop here: Cocoknits stitch markers.
You can also find out more about our book, which contains heaps more hints and tips on lace knitting, and the accompanying yarn kits here: Something New to Learn About Lace

There is always a balance between fixing errors and just living with them, and I sometimes find it hard to just leave a mistake and move on, but the best way to avoid having to live with them is definitely to read your knitting regularly, so that when things do go wrong, you can quickly sort them out.

Happy knitting!
